Members of the lower house of the Parliament of Kazakhstan proposed legalizing the sale of organ transplants, MIR 24 reports.
A parliamentarian of Majilis of Kazakhstan Guldara Nurumova noted that the country is facing a big problem with organ transplantation. Now the law allows selecting a donor only from among relatives, but they are not always compatible.
The parliamentarian notes that other people are ready to donate their organs. Sale ads are placed on the illegal market. In her opinion, international practices need to be studied, and the sale of human organs needs in Kazakhstan to be regulated.
About 4,000 people are currently on the waiting organ transplant list. Of them, nearly 90 percent are in need of a kidney transplant, and many never wait their turn and die. Another option for transplant recipients is to travel abroad to acquire an organ. Prices range from $50,000 to $150,000. The average age of transplant recipients is between 18 and 35 years.
