On February 17, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov extended his condolences to the leader of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon for the victims of the natural disaster in GBAO, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.
In his message, Japarov wrote that it was with deep sadness that he learned of the death of people in snow avalanches in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan.
“On behalf of the Kyrgyz people and on my own behalf, I am extending my condolences to the families and friends of the victims, I am sharing their grief. I am asking the Almighty for a speedy recovery to the injured,” Japarov said in his message.
As was reported, the avalanche killed 19 people and injured 10 more people in Khorog city, the administrative centre of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan.
The Committee of Emergency Situations of Tajikistan reported that the avalanche destroyed 4 houses and damaged 35 residential buildings and 5 business facilities. The regional commission for emergency situations is conducting assessment of damage.
