Japarov: price hikes in Kyrgyzstan are inevitable

Chairman of the Government of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov spoke about price hikes and inflation in the Central Asian republic in his interview with the Kabar State News Agency. He noted that not everything depends on the Government, external factors play a crucial role.

He acknowledged that commodity prices hikes negatively affect the well-being of citizens, particularly the purchasing power of their wages and pensions. The Prime Minister stressed that there is no escape from inflation in Kyrgyzstan, as the current situation is triggered by the global trend.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers explained that the above external factors include the coronavirus pandemic, lockdowns and economic crises. Japarov added that the authorities are not sitting on their hands doing nothing but are working effectively to reduce the impact of external shocks.

Kyrgyzstan adopted the Anti-Crisis Action Plan was adopted, which ensured sustainable economic growth and allowed citizens to celebrate the New Year Day, the Chairman of the Government added.
