Ashgabat hosts first meeting of community of Central Asian needlewomen

On November 23, the first online meeting of the international community of needlewomen from the Central Asian states took place as part of the chairmanship of Turkmenistan in the Dialogue of Women of Central Asia. The parties noted that the creation of this community will not only launch joint efforts to safeguard cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations but also give a new impetus to encourage women’s entrepreneurship, the Turkmenistan Today News Agency reported.

The Turkmen side stressed that large-scale work is being done under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to safeguard and develop national cultural heritage that occupies a significant place in the life of society. The emphasis was placed on the specific features of the art of needlework, respect for women, protection of their rights and their active participation in the political, social and cultural life of the state.

The speakers from the Central Asian states noted the importance of creating an international community to support the exchange of experience among women in the region and promote the development of needlework and handicrafts. They also put forward the proposals for the organisation of this kind of festivals and fairs.
