Smailov urges SCO Member States to speed up cooperation for food security

On November 1, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov addressed the 21st meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) urging to intensify efforts to ensure food security and develop transport potential, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan highlighted the important role of coordinated activity in achieving food security. He noted that Kazakhstan that has substantial experience in agriculture is ready to make a significant contribution to fulfil these tasks. The development of the Concept of cooperation in selective breeding and seed production may become a priority in this matter.

Such methods will give impetus to develop the agro-industrial sector and promote cooperation among the profile platforms of the Member States and, ultimately, have a favourable effect on the achievement of food security, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.

Alikhan Smailov also emphasised the need to work together towards creating transport and transit corridors. The Prime Minister noted that the Aktau sea terminal has technical parameters that allow it to be a nodal module on the route India-Persian Gulf-Iran-Kazakhstan-Russia. The collaborative use of the capacities of the Trans-Caspian corridor will ensure consistent freight transportation and workload, the Prime Minister noted.
