Meeting between foreign ministers of Uzbekistan and Germany

On November 1, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Annalena Baerbock to discuss the prospects for promoting strategic cooperation and interaction within the international organisations, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.

The Federal Minister was informed about the basic aspects of the foreign policy of Uzbekistan that is interested in establishing close ties primarily with its Central Asian neighbours and ongoing constitutional reform.

The interlocutors expressed mutual interest in building up bilateral cooperation in such spheres as trade, economy, cultural and humanitarian exchange, science, education, human rights and political interaction, as well as organising joint events in various fields.

The importance of establishing partnerships between the National Centre for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the German Institute for Human Rights was noted. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan invited German experts to attend the Global Forum on Human Rights Education, which will be held in Tashkent on December 5-6 this year.

An exchange of views on environmental protection, measures taken by Uzbekistan to mitigate the impacts of the desiccation of the Aral Sea and the possibilities of Germany’s involvement in environmental and social projects in the Aral Sea region took place.
