Turkmenistan has taken important step to build up energy partnerships

On October 26-28, Ashgabat hosted the XXVII International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2022” (OGT-2022). In his interview with CentralAsia.news, an observer Ussa Ussaev told about the key points and outcomes of these events.

Ussaev noted that the organisers created conditions conducive to expanding the circle of participants, given the huge interest worldwide in these events. More than 500 delegates from 45 countries took part in the forum. OGT-2022 brought together the heads and leading specialists of Turkmen ministries and departments, foreign and Turkmen companies, international organisations and financial institutions, research centres and universities, diplomatic missions and the media.

The major themes under discussion included the development trends of the global oil and gas market, the integration of Turkmenistan’s fuel and energy sector into the international energy system and the transition to renewable energy and hydrogen technologies. The agenda also covered the environmental aspects of hydrocarbon development, the search for options for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and infrastructure improvements in the context of digitalization.

Speaking at the conference, the top managers of foreign companies supported Turkmenistan’s intention to diversify hydrocarbon export routes, the expert noted. They stressed that members of the world community are very interested in natural gas supplies from Turkmenistan that has enough capacity to meet the growing energy demand.

The analyst placed an emphasis on the presentations of the Turkmen side, who informed the participants about the progress of the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline. This project will help achieve energy security in the region, reduce CO2 emissions and help achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, as well as supply reliable and cheap “blue fuel” to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The Turkmen side invited foreign investors to contribute to the implementation of “green” projects in the country.

The expert added that Turkmen and foreign partners signed new contracts on the sidelines of the OGT-2022 forum. In particular, the Turkmengas State Concern signed product supply agreements with Pipe Metallurgical Company (TMK) from Russia and Auguste International Fze from the UAE. The Turkmenneft State Concern signed a product supply agreement with Shandong Kerui Petroleum from China and an agreement on cooperation in 3D seismic surveys on Block 19 in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea with Dragon Oil. The Turkmenneft State Concern signed a equipment supply contract worth over 6 million euros with Hybrid Innovation GmbH.

“We can say with confidence that the XXVII International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2022” has provided an excellent platform for building up partnerships and creating new business opportunities, expanding professional contacts and establishing ties across the entire spectrum of the fuel and energy sector – from financing and science to production and consumption,” Ussa Ussaev concluded.
