Shavkat Mirziyoyev attends Central Asia-European Union Summit

On October 27, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid a working visit to Kazakhstan.  The Uzbek leader took part in the Central Asia-European Union Summit together with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Hojamyrat Geldimyradov and President of the European Council Charles Michel during his visit to Astana, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Addressing the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev specified the key development areas for New Uzbekistan: the creation of a jural state with a developed market economy and a high standard of living. The Uzbek leader also focused on expanding cooperation with the closest neighbours in the region, noting that it has been showing a positive trend of development in all key areas in recent years.

The Uzbek leader noted the intensification of partnerships with the European Union in the trade, economic, transport, logistics and investment sectors among the major tasks. The President proposed setting up the European Union-Central Asia Economic Cooperation Committee at the level of deputy prime ministers and developing a Strategic Programme to deepen trade and economic cooperation and develop transport and communication links.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the need to boost cultural, humanitarian, educational and tourism contacts with the EU countries, in particular to adopt European teaching methods and conduct joint scientific research, exhibitions and other cultural events.

In his speech, the President of Uzbekistan focused on a number of issues of regional policy, including security, counteraction to illicit drug trafficking and extremism and the Afghan problems.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev during his working visit to Astana. The two leaders exchanged views on enhancing bilateral cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, industry, transport, logistics and agriculture. They discussed the arrangements for the Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, which will take place in Samarkand on November 11.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev returned to Tashkent on the same day.
