Rahmon calls on Central Asia countries and EU to build up trade and economic cooperation

On October 27, President Emomali Rahmon took part in the First Central Asia-EU Summit. In his speech, he expressed satisfaction with the level of interaction between Tajikistan and the European Union and the adoption of a new EU Strategy on Central Asia and thanked the EU leadership for providing assistance during the coronavirus pandemic, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

“Today’s event is another good opportunity to discuss and coordinate actions against the backdrop of global geopolitical changes towards building up constructive development of interregional cooperation,” the Tajik leader noted.

Rahmon stated that his country fully supports the efforts to promote interregional mutually beneficial partnerships in economy, transport, communication, water, energy and other spheres aimed at sustainable development of the states of the region.

Addressing the meeting, the President informed about the possibility of deepening interstate relations within the Central Asia-the European Union format in such promising areas of cooperation as trade, economy, food security, agricultural production, transport, logistics and energy.

The leader of Tajikistan put forward the proposals to address such critical challenges as climate change, melting glaciers, more frequent and severe floods, drought and the harmful effects brought about by these phenomena, which have adverse socio-economic impacts on the countries.
