Tajikistan and Iran discuss aspects of trade and economic cooperation

On October 19, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Abdurakhmon Abdurakhmonzoda held talks with IRI Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Shahriar Afandizadeh. The interlocutors discussed key aspects of further cooperation in the trade, economic and investment sectors, the press office of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Abdurahmonzoda noted that Iran is one of the main trade partners of Tajikistan. For 8 months of the year, external trade between the two countries amounted to $143.2 million and increased by more than 3.1 times compared to the same period of 2021. The Tajik official noted that there are many untapped opportunities for the implementation of the Programme on long-term trade and economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for 2022-2030.

The interlocutors agreed that they would soon hold a meeting via videoconference to present the capacities of free economic zones in Tajikistan. They also expressed mutual readiness to attract Iranian investments to set up joint ventures in the Republic of Tajikistan.
