Rahmon and Zas discuss complicated military-political situation in the region

On October 18, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas, who arrived in Dushanbe to participate in the two-day conference on countering terrorism and extremism, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

As was reported, “The interlocutors exchanged views on the complicated military-political situation in the region and the world and highlighted the need to enhance the capacity for protecting the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.”

Zas and Rahmon considered strengthening interaction between Dushanbe and the CSTO, as well as topical issues on the regional and international agenda.

The Tajik leader called the Collective Security Treaty Organization an important factor in ensuring regional stability.

Earlier, addressing the Russia-Central Asia summit, Rahmon said the situation on the Tajik-Afghan border is deteriorating and militant groups are gathering their forces on the border.

The Tajik leader said Dushanbe is strengthening its border with the neighbouring state and building necessary border facilities.
