Meeting between leaders of Uzbekistan and Hungary

On October 4, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of Hungary Katalin Novak, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The high-level talks took place in the Sandor Palace in Budapest. The two leaders discussed the prospects for promoting bilateral strategic cooperation. They noted that the two peoples were bound by deep historical and cultural ties and spoke about the dynamics of development of mutually beneficial partnerships and the enhancement of inter-parliamentary and public relations.

A special role in interstate relations is assigned to trade, economic and investment cooperation, which is facilitated by the activities of the Uzbekistan-Hungary Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the Uzbekistan-Hungary Business Council. It was noted that the inclusion of Uzbekistan in the EU’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP) will expand and diversify bilateral trade.

With the aim to foster cultural and humanitarian cooperation, the Hungarian Government decided to increase the annual quota for Uzbek students and doctoral students to 170 in the frame of the Hungaricum Scholarship Programme.

An exchange of views on a number of issues of regional and international politics took place during the meeting.
