Kazakhstan and UN outlines prospects for multilateral cooperation

On September 21, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters during his working visit to New York. The interlocutors discussed the current situation and future plans aimed at strengthening multifaceted cooperation, the press office of Akorda reported to CentralAsia.news.

They focused on coordinating efforts to jointly develop tools to build effective responses to the pressing challenges facing the world today.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev highly evaluated the activities of Antonio Guterres as UN Secretary-General and specified that he fully shares his initiative to convene the Summit of the Future in 2024. The President expressed hope that the agreements reached at the international forum would give a meaningful impetus to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The interlocutors reviewed the progress of the implementation of the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan to open the UN Centre for SDGs for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty. The Secretary-General fully approved this project. In conclusion, the Kazakh leader invited Antonio Guterres to visit Kazakhstan.
