Tourism promotion measures discussed in Tashkent

On September 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting via videoconference to discuss measures to promote Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The participants reported on the latest development indicators of the industry, particularly after sanitary restrictions were lifted, and assessed the potential for promoting tourism in the regions of Uzbekistan.

President Mirziyoyev stressed that the newly built Great Silk Road International Tourist Centre in Samarkand should attract tourists from all over the world, which necessitates launching a campaign to popularise the monuments of this historical region in cooperation with foreign embassies and business companies.

The Khokims of Fergana, Bukhara, Khorezm, Kashkadarya, Navoi and Surkhandarya Regions and Karakalpakstan presented the reports. It was proposed to promote safari tourism in the steppes in these regions. It was also proposed to develop pilgrimage tourism, as more than 1,200 Muslim shrines are located on the territory of Uzbekistan.

The emphasis was placed on the importance of increasing the frequency of rail and air systems and highway capacity.

It is planned to loosen excessive restrictions and regulations for the opening of a private hotel and registration requirements for foreign tourists.
