Berdimuhamedov calls on SCO Member States to expand energy partnerships

On September 16, the leader of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward the proposal for the intensification of energy cooperation at the SCO Summit in Samarkand, the Turkmenistan: Golden Age News Agency reported.

In his speech, the President emphasised that Turkmenistan possesses rich mineral recourses. For many years, Turkmenistan has been promoting partnerships on energy supplies with China, Russia and neighbouring countries. With the aim to expand interaction in this area, Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the need to develop joint projects on diversification of natural resource supplies. He said this will enable the SCO Member States to meet their needs and give them with access to promising foreign markets.

The President of Turkmenistan said the implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline project will ensure economic stability on a regional scale and contribute to the revival of Afghanistan.

“Here I would like to emphasise the importance of involving Afghanistan in these and other multilateral projects, as one of the key factors for reviving its economy and social sphere and ultimately, achieving peace and cohesion. We also consider it our priority to provide a comprehensive economic and humanitarian support to the fraternal Afghan people,” Berdimuhamedov said.
