Rahmon and Raisi discuss current situation in Afghanistan in Samarkand

On September 15, the leader of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with IRI President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi in Samarkand. The interlocutors discussed multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

They noted the growth in commodity turnover between Tajikistan and Iran, which amounted to over $116 million in the first six months of the year. Last year, trade between Tajikistan and Iran amounted to $120 million.

The interlocutors focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic, industrial, agricultural, energy, transport, communications, cultural and humanitarian sectors.

The President of Tajikistan supported the initiative to set up a joint working group to use the transit potential of the two countries and boost cooperation between the regions of Tajikistan and Iran.

The interlocutors discussed urgent issues on the agenda, including the situation in Afghanistan.

As was reported, Rahmon arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the SCO Summit. It is planned to submit more than 30 documents for signing at the Summit.
