Kazakhstan and China discuss transboundary water resource issues

On September 14, President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with President Xi Jinping, who arrived in Nur-Sultan for an official visit. The interlocutors exchanged greetings and discussed further cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in various fields, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

“This is your first foreign trip after the pandemic, so this visit is of historic importance. I consider it evidence of a high level of mutual trust and cooperation,” the Kazakh leader emphasised.

Tokayev noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations. In this regard, he stressed that strong interstate ties have been established during this period and thanked his Chinese counterpart for supporting the economic development of Kazakhstan and its initiatives in the international arena.

Xi Jinping highly evaluated the level of bilateral mutually beneficial relations and expressed belief that his visit would give a powerful impetus to promote them. He assured Tokayev that China supports the position of the Republic of Kazakhstan on regional and international issues.

The interlocutors considered expanding partnerships in the transport, logistics and agro-industrial sectors and discussed transboundary water resource issues.
