Berdimuhamedov and Putin discuss role of Gazprom and Tatneft in Turkmenistan

On September 15, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the leader of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand. The interlocutors focused on promoting bilateral relations, the press office of Kremlin reported.

Noting the special role of the energy sector in bilateral cooperation, Putin said Gazprom – the major company in Russia’s energy sector has been productively operating in Turkmenistan for many years.

He also noted the operation of the Tatneft pipe metallurgical company that has been working in Turkmenistan not so long ago.

It was noted that Moscow aims to diversify economic cooperation with Ashgabat in other areas of interaction, including agriculture and the textile industry.

The Russian side also expressed readiness to supply non-primary products to the Turkmen market.

The President of Turkmenistan highly evaluated Turkmen-Russian relations, noting the significant role of mutual high-level visits.

Berdimuhamedov thanked Putin for his continued support for the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in the UN and other international organisations.
