Tajikistan provides over $1 million in aid to Pakistan

On September 6, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon ordered to provide 12.2 million somoni ($1.2 million) in humanitarian aid to Pakistan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

As was reported, deadly rainfall and flash floods in Pakistan, which have been continuing for more than a month now, have caused extensive damage to the country. In accordance with the instructions of the Tajik leader, a humanitarian aid convoy will set off on September 7.

The humanitarian aid convoy will deliver 500 tonnes of flour, 500 tonnes of drinking water, 1,000 tonnes of coal, 1,000 tonnes of cement and 20,000 slate pieces.

As reported, Pakistan is facing the heaviest torrential monsoon rains in decades, which triggered devastating floods. More than a thousand people have become disaster victims.

The flooding crisis has become catastrophic, affecting all four provinces of Pakistan. Nearly 3,000 km of roads and 129 bridges were damaged, blocking access to the regions that suffered significant damage.

According to the authorities of Pakistan, this year’s flood situation is worse than in 2010, when 1,700 people were killed.
