Kazakhstan to reload SEZ development strategy

On September 1, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev addressed his compatriots and high-ranking officials at the 3rd session of the Parliament of the 7th convocation. Along with other transformations, the Kazakh leader focused on the adjustments to the development of the real sector, the press office of Akorda reported to CentralAsia.news.

Dwelling on the upcoming tasks, the President emphasised the need to simplify significantly the legal environment and regulatory framework to attract investment in subsoil resource use. In this regard, the President instructed to create a unified geological database as soon as possible.

Tokayev reminded that he ordered to conduct the audit of effectiveness of special economic zones (SEZs) a year ago. The audit revealed the gaps and outlined new plans of action, which are necessitated by a fundamentally different strategy for SEZ development, the President said.

In this context, the President focused on the factors for relocating foreign enterprises in Kazakhstan, urging to continue to use a differentiated approach to providing investment benefits and adhere to the principle – the more investment, the more benefits.
