On August 29, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in the ground-breaking ceremony of the first building in the new city of Al-Khwarizmi during his visit to Urgench, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.
Local residents – the elders, women and youth people took part in the ceremony of laying the capsule into the foundation of the building.
The project of the new city was presented to the President in March this year. It was named after of the greatest medieval scholars of the East – mathematician, astronomer, historian and philosopher Al-Khwarizmi, who was born in these places.
The new settlement will spring up near the Urgench airport. Housing estates, schools and kindergartens, household facilities, parks, healthcare and cultural institutions, shopping centres, car parks, Technology Park, office buildings, a school for gifted children and Al-Khwarizmi University will grow on an area of more than 130 hectares. It is planned to build a monument to Al-Khwarizmi in the centre.
President Mirziyoyev talked to local residents and builders and congratulated them on the upcoming Independence Day during his visit to Urgench.
