Regional security issues discussed in capital city of Uzbekistan

On August 24, a regular meeting of the ministers of defence of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization took place in Tashkent, the Dunyo News Agency reported.

The ministers of defence of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Belarus, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan participated in the meeting. They focused on ensuring regional and international security and measures to strengthen cooperation in this area among the SCO Member States.

The parties noted the high level of mutual understanding among the SCO Member States, emphasising that the SCO plays a major role in maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The participants considered measures to further strengthen good-neighbourly relations among the states of the region and enhance interaction of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization with other regional organisations and discussed the upcoming Pipe of Peace Festival of military brass bands of the SCO Member States.

The participants adopted the Joint Communiqué, which contains information on joint events and military exercises.

The next meeting of the SCO ministers of defence will be held in India in 2023.
