Turkmenistan and Astrakhan discuss cooperation in transport and logistics

A delegation from Turkmenistan headed by the deputy head of the agency Türkmendeňizderýaýollary («Turkmen Sea and River Routes») Seyitguly Baiseyidov paid an official three-day visit to the Astrakhan region. It was reported by the state television and radio company «Lotos».

As part of the meeting, Turkmen officials and Astrakhan representatives discussed issues of cooperation in the transport, logistics and shipbuilding sectors. They mentioned that in 2021 the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan region reached 200 million US dollars.

The participants of the negotiations underlined that the launch of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the Olya village, Limansky district, Astrakhan region in the port special economic zone «Lotos» will help increase trade. The Turkmen side will get a plot of 50 hectares for the relevant facility.

Sergey Milushkin, General Director of the SEZ «Lotos», noted that after the launch of the center, Turkmenistan has every chance of becoming a center for transporting goods from the Russian Federation to the Central Asian states, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The parties also discussed the launch of a regular auto-ferry service between the Turkmenbashi International Seaport and the port of Olya. Deputy head of the Ministry of Industry, Transport and Natural Resources of the Astrakhan region Mikhail Kabakov noted that Turkmenistan could import potatoes, onions, rice, lamb and chicken eggs from the region.
