Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to build trust between border area populations

Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic in Tajikistan Erlan Abdyldaev and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sodik Imomi held talks in the capital of Tajikistan. The interlocutors focused on ensuring the protection of the rights of border area populations, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

They agreed to take further activities to restore and build trust among the border area populations in their countries, which was essential to boosting security on the common border of the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan.

Particular attention was paid to cross-border cooperation and interregional interaction between Bishkek and Dushanbe. The agenda of the meeting also covered key aspects of bilateral cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres.

The interlocutors discussed partnerships between the Central Asian states within international organisations.

The length of the border between the countries is 987 kilometres, of which 664 kilometres have been delineated.
