Medallists of Islamic Solidarity Games solemnly welcomed to Tashkent

On August 20, the Uzbek athletes, who performed at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, hosted by Konya, Turkey, were welcomed solemnly at the Tashkent International Airport, the press office of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan reported.

Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan Abdujabbor Abduvokhidov, Press Secretary of the President Sherzod Asadov, Minister of Sports Development Adham Ikramov, Tashkent Khokim Jahongir Artikkhojaev, the representatives of sports organisations and the family members greeted the medallists.

From the airport, the athletes headed to the National Olympic Committee, where a ceremony in honour of the Uzbek team, who successfully performed on the international sports arena, took place.

More than 4,000 athletes from 56 countries performed at the Islamic Solidarity Games. The Uzbek athletes brought home 158 medals, including 51 gold, 42 silver and 65 bronze medals. The Uzbekistan national team that lost to the Turkey team– the “hosts” of the Games ranked second in the team event.

Weightlifters Ruslan Nuriddinov, Akbar Zhuraev, Sarvarbek Zafarjonov and Tursunoy Zhabborova and Olga Zabelinskaya (cycling) showed excellent results; they won three gold medals each. The medallists include Ulugbek Rashidov, Adhamjon Ergashev, Safina Sadullayeva, Diyora Keldiyorova and Sharif Davronova.

The Uzbekistan Paralympic team performed successfully at the Games. Azizbek Boynazarov, Omadbek Khasanov, Sultonbek Nuriddinov, Bakhtiyor Ortikov, Rasul Atamuratov returned home with medals.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mmirziyoyev congratulated the athletes.
