President of Uzbekistan completes state visit to Saudi Arabia

On August 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a number of meetings with representatives of business and financial communities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and visited the sacred Kaaba, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The Uzbek leader met with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Hussein Ibrahim Taha in the unofficial capital of Saudi Arabia, Jeddah. The talks focused on aspects of cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian and tourism sectors. The OIC Secretary-General emphasised that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is ready to support all initiatives and reforms in Uzbekistan. The interlocutors agreed to promote the exchange of experiences in such matters as empowering women to participate in public life and strengthening the family institution.

The President of Uzbekistan held a meeting with President of the Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser. The interlocutors discussed aspects of partnerships in the financial sector and adopted an IDB funding programme for a number of projects in Uzbekistan totalling of $1.2 billion by the end of the year.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the sacred Kaaba in Mecca and performed rituals of Umrah.

The first state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia in the history of independent Uzbekistan ended. On the night of August 19, Shavkat Mirziyoyev returned to Tashkent from Jeddah.
