Uzbek leader meets with Uzbek IT community

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Astrum IT Academy in Tashkent, where he met with representatives of Uzbekistan’s IT industry, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the development prospects of the industry. Minister of the Development of Information Technologies and Communications Sherzod Shermatov and other participants shared with the President their views on the ways to address existing challenges.

The IT industry is one of the most dynamically developing sectors of Uzbek economy. An increasing number of young people are planning to tie their future with digital technologies. Over the past 5 years, 2 billion soums have been allocated to develop the industry; IT parks are created, and IT companies are set up throughout the country, and self-employed specialists in the industry increase in number. The state had reduced mobile data costs, which enabled Uzbekistan to rise from 68th to 15th place in the world rankings in 3 years.

President Mirziyoyev highlighted the need to boost exports of digital technology services by improving the quality of internet connection and expanding the geography of internet access, particularly in remote areas, support IT start-ups and youth initiatives and help them enter international markets and expediate digital transformation of all spheres of economic and social life of the country.
