RF Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visits Tashkent

On July 28, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Sergey Lavrov arrived in Tashkent leading the Russian delegation that would take part in the meetings of foreign ministers of the SCO Member States.

The Uzbek leader and his guest discussed important aspects of bilateral strategic cooperation in a number of areas, particularly within such international organisations as the SCO.

The interlocutors exchanged views on preparatory work for the SCO Summit and the prospects for Uzbekistan-Russia trade and economic cooperation. This year, trade between the two countries has grown by 32 percent, and with the assistance of the Joint Project Office, it is planned to implement about 40 large-scale investment projects by the end of 2021. The countries actively cooperate in the education sector – 12 Russian universities currently operate in Uzbekistan.

The participants paid attention to key aspects of regional partnerships in the Central Asia-Russia format, as well as cooperation in addressing challenges associated with the economic and political situation in Afghanistan.
