Minister of Health reports on prevention of monkeypox in Tajikistan

On July 28, Minister of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan Jamoliddin Abdullozoda reported on the measures taken by the authorities to prevent the spread of monkeypox to the country. He noted that the measures focused on checking citizens arriving in the country, the Khovar News Agency reported.

Abdullozoda said no cases of monkeypox have been reported in the Republic as of July 28, and the state has tightened control at border crossings.

Particular attention is paid to testing citizens arriving from abroad, in particular from those countries where cases of monkeypox have been registered. They undergo a thorough medical examination, which includes body temperature measuring, since fever is one of the symptoms.

It was noted that the Central Asian Republic has testing kits for detection of monkeypox virus.

On July 23, WHO Secretary General Tedros Ghebreyesus said the global monkeypox outbreak represents a public health emergency of international concern.
