Rahmon calls on special services in Central Asia to strengthen ties

On July 21, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon took part in the Fourth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of bringing together the efforts of all states to respond to regional threats, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Rahmon highlighted the importance of countering terrorism, extremism, illicit drug and firearms trafficking and cybercrime, emphasising that today the ideology of religious radicalism, implanted in the region, is posing a serious threat.

The Tajik leader underscored the danger of “sleeper cells” of international terrorism. In this context, he called on his counterparts to work towards building up partnerships among special services of the Central Asian states to adequately respond to security threats in the region.

Emomali Rahmon expressed concern about the developments in neighbouring Afghanistan.

The participants agreed to hold the Fifth Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Dushanbe on September 14-15, 2023.
