Berdimuhamedov signs decree on increasing minimum wage

On July 8, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held an expanded government meeting dedicated to the results of the work in all sectors of the economy from January to July 2022. Following the meeting, he signed a decree on raising the minimum wage. It was reported by the state news agency «Turkmenistan today».

According to the document, in January next year, the monthly minimum salary will be increased to 1,160 manats (approximately 331.4 US dollars). At the moment, the minimum wage is 1,050 manats (300 US dollars).

The decree also implies an increase in the minimum pension for veterans of the Great Patriotic War to 1,880 manats (about 537.1 US dollars). In 2023, the basis for calculation of pension payments will reach 450 manats (almost 128.6 US dollars), and state benefits — 430 manats (122.9 US dollars).

On January 1, the size of the monthly salary of employees of state institutions and organizations, pension payments, and student scholarships will be increased by 10%. It is important to note that this happens every year.

In 2021, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, ex-president of Turkmenistan, in an interview to the «MIR 24» TV channel, said that, according to the World Bank, Turkmenistan has been classified as an upper-middle-income country.
