Tajikistan to host “Tajiks – a mirror of the history of the nation” Contest in 2023

On July 7, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the Order authorising to hold the contest “Tajiks – a mirror of the history of the nation” next year. In accordance with the document, the contest will mark the 115th birth anniversary of historian-orientalist Bobojan Gafurov, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reports.

The Ministry of Education and Science, the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan and a number of other departments were instructed to hold the contest at the highest organisational level. The administrations of all the regions, the capital city, cities and districts were instructed to award winners with prize money.

In accordance with the Order, 1,480,000 somoni or about $141,900 will be spent on the contest. Rahmon ordered to ensure the targeted use of these funds and submit a detailed spending report.

Bobojan Gafurov is a well-known scientist, historian, statesman, academician and Hero of Tajikistan. On his initiative, the first university opened in the Central Asian state in 1948. He made a tremendous contribution to economic development of Tajikistan after the civil war. To this day, his book “Tajiks” published in 1972 is considered the most complete study of one of the oldest nations of the world.
