Uzbekistan keeps modernising electric power enterprises

On June 23, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the modernisation of electric power enterprises, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

In Uzbekistan, 3 agencies affiliated with the Uzbekenergo Joint-Stock Company have been established in accordance with the Power Industry Development and Reform Strategy that are entrusted with generating, transporting and selling electricity. The connection of 7 million electricity customers to the unified control and monitoring system, electricity fees are collected in 100 percent. The construction of 19 new power infrastructure facilities is also underway, including through foreign investment.

The modernisation plans of industrial facilities envisage changing the activity scheme of the Uzbekiston Milliy Elektr Tarmoklari JSC: henceforth, a company will purchase electric power from producers on a contractual basis and sell it to regional power grid enterprises, and the transmission system operator will be responsible for maintaining the power network and monitoring electric power transmission.

Private companies that will sell electric power will be set up.
