OSCE representative positively evaluates reforms in Kazakhstan

On June 24, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Matteo Mecacci. The interlocutors discussed the current agenda of cooperation with the ODIHR in the context of on-going democratic reforms in the Republic, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Kazakh leader highlighted the important role of the visit of Matteo Mecacci in intensifying cooperation with the OSCE in the field of human rights and boosting efforts to achieve the supremacy of law and democratic values.

Evaluating the adoption of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Human Rights Commissioner of Kazakhstan and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the President noted that this step vividly illustrates Kazakhstan’s commitment to promoting partnerships with the ODIHR and its respect for the principles of the OSCE.

The European visitor confirmed the fruitful nature of interaction and expressed his readiness to further strengthen constructive cooperation with Kazakhstan. He positively evaluated and supported the large-scale reforms launched in the country at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and assured that the OSCE views the Republic as a major partner.
