First passenger train in 30 years runs from Dushanbe to Tashkent

The solemn departure ceremony of the first passenger train in 30 years on the route Dushanbe-Tashkent took place in the capital of Tajikistan. Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrokhim attended the event, the press office of the Uzbekistan Railways JSC reports.

The Minister emphasised that train movement resumed after a long break thanks to the efforts of the leaders of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He added that buses will run between the cities in the future and the opening of new railway routes is under consideration.

The length of the railway route is 916 kilometres. It takes about 21 hours to travel to Tashkent. A ticket costs about 370 somoni ($33.76) with the discount.

As was reported, the plans to resume railway services between the republics were announced following the talks between the leaders of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan Emomali Rahmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev on June 2 this year.
