Tajikistan and Kazakhstan to increase trade turnover to $2 billion

On June 16, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting on the sidelines of the Second Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in Almaty. The parties discussed trade cooperation issues, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kazakhstan reports.

The officials discussed key aspects of interaction between the republics within the international and regional organisations. The emphasis was placed on the importance of promoting a mutual understanding during the coronavirus pandemic.

They noted that last year, bilateral trade exceeded $1.1 billion. Smailov said the two states have all the necessary resources to increase trade turnover to $2 billion in the future.

They also considered setting up joint ventures in the agro-industrial sector and bilateral cooperation in the industry and water sector.
