First Kurultai of Kazakhstan takes place in sacred Ulytau

On June 16, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev participated in the First National Kurultai. The fact that the kurultai took place in a sacred valley – Ulytau symbolises the adherence to the ancestral traditions of the Kazakh society, the press office of Akorda reported.

Addressing citizens of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev thanked them for supporting fundamental changes launched in the country and voting in the All-Republic referendum. The President said voters went together with their families to the polling stations, demonstrating that they are not indifferent to the fate of Kazakhstan.

The President emphasised that the state will continue its course of comprehensive modernisation, but New Kazakhstan cannot be built in a short time, it is a complex process that will take time.

This path will change the life of society for the better. However, the tasks will be fulfilled if we work as a united team, the President said.

The Kazakh leader noted that the Kazakh people convened kurultai in ancient times; the ancestors considered all crucial issues at such meetings, and these decisions united the people.

The President dwelt on the organisational aspects of the activities of the body. The kurultai consists of 117 members. They represent citizens of all regions, various professions and different ages. The statements of the elders, the life experience of the middle generation and modern initiatives of young people will be taken into consideration at National Kurultai meetings, the President said.
