Uzbekistan continues to modernise water resource management

On June 8, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the projects aimed at improving the supply of drinking water in Surkhandarya Region and modernising water use facilities, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The activities of Uzbekhydroenergo JSC that manages six water reservoirs, established by the Decree of the President in 2017, are concerned with water resource management issues in Uzbekistan. The Uzbekhydroenergo divisions are responsible for reinforcing dams and water intake facilities and repairing pumping units.

President Mirziyoyev reviewed the plans for the modernisation of water supply networks. The plans envisage renovating technical resources of the water sector, which will enable to manage the processes from the situational and analytical centre and increase electricity generation by hydroelectric power plants.

Two hydroelectric power plants with an annual capacity of 22 million kWh will be built on the Hissarak and Akhangaran water reservoirs. The private sector will be involved in building the power plants and training maintenance personnel.

The Agency for Space Research and Technology will monitor the water reservoirs from space.

A water pipeline that will provide the population of Surkhandarya Region with high-quality drinking water will be built from the Tupalang water reservoir.
