Uzbekistan takes part in International Environment Forum

The Uzbekistan delegation took part in the International Meeting “Stockholm+50: A Healthy Planet for the Prosperity of All – Our Responsibility, Our Opportunity”, which was held in the capital of Sweden, the press office of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan reported.

The participants from 137 countries, including 6 presidents, 3 prime ministers, top managers of dozens of international organisations, environment protection departments and UN agencies attended the forum.

Speaking at the session “Our Action Plan for a Sustainable Planet in the Digital Age”, Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Badriddin Abidov reported on the measures taken by Uzbekistan to alleviate the negative effects of the Aral Sea crisis. The Uzbekistan delegation informed about the activities of the environment protection departments of Uzbekistan to conserve biodiversity, optimise solid waste management and promote sustainable development of the Aral Sea region.

The Uzbek officials held a series of meetings with representatives of the UN Environment Programme, the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and other international organisations. They made presentations on the work done by the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea Region.

They considered holding the First International High-Level Aral Sea Region Forum in Uzbekistan this year and boosting cooperation on digital transformation to achieve sustainable regional development.
