OSCE Referendum Assessment Mission to visit Kazakhstan

On June 2, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held talks with OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau. The Kazakh leader informed his interlocutor about the preparations for the nationwide referendum and supported the decision of the Organisation to send an OSCE mission to assess this historic event, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The President emphasised that the upcoming referendum is the starting point of the implementation of significant political reforms in the country. The Republic is working towards promoting democracy without interruption.

The interlocutors also considered in detail bilateral cooperation in three dimensions of the OSCE: military-political, economic and environmental and human.

“The upcoming referendum is a very important sign of political will for positive changes. I should note that the constitutional reforms in your country are aimed at strengthening the principles of democracy, freedom and the rule of law,” Rau said, addressing Tokayev.

The Polish diplomat told the Kazakh leader about his meetings with religious communities and citizens of Kazakhstan. He highly evaluated the Kazakh model of interethnic and interfaith cohesion and thanked the Kazakh leader for supporting the Polish diaspora in Kazakhstan.
