Leaders of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan hold press conference

On June 2, a briefing on the outcomes of talks between the leaders of the two states was held in Tashkent during the official visit of President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Uzbekistan, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

Addressing journalists, Uzbek leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasised that Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are time-tested friends and close neighbours.

“Uzbekistan sincerely values relations of friendship and good neighbourliness with the fraternal Tajik people, based on the common history, spiritual and cultural heritage and ancestral traditions. We have always stood shoulder to shoulder, supported each other in bright days and in times of ordeal,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan highly evaluated the contribution of President Mirziyoyev to good neighbourly relations between the two countries.

The indicators of trade and economic cooperation were presented at the briefing. The trade growth rate reached 35% in the first quarter of 2022 and increased by an average of 40% over the past few years.  The Uzbekistan-Tajikistan business forum, which was held in Tashkent recently, has resulted in signing documents on cooperation worth over $1 billion. The Tashkent-Dushanbe passenger train is to be launched soon.

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan intend to develop transport and logistics infrastructure, boost passenger traffic and promote cooperation in the agricultural, water and power sectors.

2025 has been declared the International Year of Glacier Preservation at the initiative of the President of Tajikistan.

The leaders of the two countries informed that they had discussed some issues of regional and international politics during bilateral talks.
