WHO commends Kazakhstan for tobacco control measures

Chairman of the Government of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov met with Head of Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) Adriana Blanco Marquizo, the press office of the Prime Minister reported.

The meeting focused on increasing the consistency of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the key provisions of the Convention and the major vectors of tobacco control measures in Kazakhstan. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers informed the guest that measures aimed at strengthening the healthy foundations of citizens are of particular priority. The Republic strictly follows the spirit of the WHO Convention.

The Prime Minister emphasised that Kazakhstan has achieved tangible results along a joint route with WHO. The effective approaches have helped significantly increase life expectancy and reduce tobacco use in the country. Modern citizens of Kazakhstan are more striving for a clean and smoke-free environment. Citizens who choose not to smoke are dynamically increasing in number, the Prime Minister noted.

Adriana Blanco Marquizo commended Kazakhstan for effective measures to protect the health of the population. The interlocutors expressed mutual interest to promote fruitful cooperation.
