Parliament of Kyrgyzstan approves law on punishment for disrespect for a teacher

On May 30, the Committee on Social Policy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic considered and approved the draft law in the first reading on the punishment for disrespectful conduct toward teachers, the press office of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The law makers propose to establish responsibility for disrespectful conduct toward teachers, including insults, obscene language, obscene and offensive behaviour, harassment and demonstration of indecent gestures (signs) and objects.

Disrespectful conduct will be punished by fine of 3,000 soms (2,000 soms if committed by minors between the ages of 12 and 16); a repeat offence will be punished by fine of 5,000 soms or administrative detention from 3 to 5 days (4,000 soms if committed by minors from 12 to 16 years old).

The draft law states that internal affairs bodies have jurisdiction to try offences and impose penalties for disrespectful conduct toward teachers.
