Tokayev informed on results of special operations of National Security Committee

On May 24, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev met with Chairman of the National Security Committee Yermek Sagimbayev, who informed the Kazakh leader about the work done this month and the upcoming tasks, the press office of Akorda reported.

The Chairman reported on the measures taken by the National Security Committee to counter international terrorism, reveal the trafficking routes of illicit drugs and weapons, including the weapons seized by criminal street gangs at the very beginning of the year, and strengthen state borders.

Sagimbaev said the special operations had resulted in curbing international and domestic drug trafficking routes and confiscating 15 kg of psychotropic substances and 4 tons of precursors. The crime groups that sold firearms and ammunition were detained. The places where drugs were stored were found.

Sagimbaev reported on the progress of reforms at the National Security Committee, initiated by the President, noting that structural changes had taken place at the main operations services to increase the efficiency of their functionality.
