Turkmenistan delivers electricity to Kyrgyzstan in full

At a meeting of the parliamentary faction «Ishenim», Deputy Minister of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic Tilek Aytaliyev said that in 2021 Turkmenistan supplied electricity to the country in full. He also outlined plans for relevant imports this year, as reported by the press office of the parliament.

Aytaliyev raised the topic answering the question from deputy Ruslanbek Jakyshov about the implementation of the agreement on the import of electricity from Turkmenistan.

According to the Deputy Minister of Energy, last year 500 million kWh of electricity was imported from this country under the contract. This year, Kyrgyzstan plans to purchase another 1.5 billion kWh of electricity, he added.

Corresponding deliveries started in August last year. Import is carried out in transit through the territory of Uzbekistan. The agreement was reached by the then President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the leader of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in June last year. It happened when Japarov was in Ashgabat within an official visit.

This year, Turkmenistan plans to increase the export of electricity to Afghanistan. Currently, Turkmen electricity is supplied to Iran and Uzbekistan as well.
