On May 20, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed the family and friends of People’s Writer of Tajikistan Mehmon Bakhti. He offered his condolences over the death of the writer who made an important contribution in this sphere, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
Rahmon said Bakhti had done a lot to expand the potential of modern Tajik literature. He also played an important role in the development of dramaturgy. His activity of many years in this sphere helped bring up the younger generation of writers, the President noted.
The Tajik leader added that Mehmon Bakhti will forever remain in the memory of citizens of Tajikistan.
The reasons for the death of the People’s Writer of Tajikistan have not been reported. He passed away at the age of 81. He was buried at the Luchob Cemetery in Dushanbe. The farewell ceremony will take place in the House of Writers.
Along with literary works, Bakhti wrote plays and screenplays for films and TV programmes. From 2003 to 2015 he headed the Writers’ Union of Tajikistan.
