Kazakhstan proposes to create food front in CIS

On May 20, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov chaired the regular remote meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government. In his speech, Smailov focused on promoting industrial cooperation and mitigating the current negative impact on the common food infrastructure, press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.

The Kazakh politician noted that the opportunities to build new and develop existing cooperative bridges continue to be explored, and this approach should contribute to improving economic stability of the CIS Member States.

Smailov stated that one of the goals of the document on economic cooperation for the period until 2030 is to assist in boosting business exchanges among small and medium-sized businesses. In this context, he proposed to update the provisions of the CIS Entrepreneurship Support and Development Programme adopted in 1998.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan said the global imbalance has a negative impact on the common food base. The Chairman proposed to implement a package of organizational and economic approaches on a regular basis to address food security issues.

In particular, Smailov proposed to reduce unnecessary competition in agricultural markets among the CIS Member States through developing a single food regulator and create joint platforms for promoting innovative projects and an end-to-end commodity distribution system.
