On May 20, Minister of Sports Development of Uzbekistan Adkham Ikramov met with his Kazakh counterpart, Minister of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan Dauren Abayev, who arrived in Tashkent to participate in the meeting of heads of ministries and departments of physical culture and sports of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States, the press office of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan reported.
Deputy Ministers Shakhrillo Makhmudov (Uzbekistan) and Serik Zharasbaev (Kazakhstan) attended the meeting of the sports ministers of the two countries.
The interlocutors discussed the promotion of cooperation in the sports sector through jointly conducting sporting events and exchanging experience.
Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of India A. Singh, Minister of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Zhamankulov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism under the Government of Tajikistan Parviz Sobirzoda, President of Pakistan Sports Board Ehsaan-ur-Rehman Mazari, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan Oybek Kasimov, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Uzbekistan Jiang Yan and SCO Secretary General Zhang Ming (China’s representatives participated in the meeting remotely) attended the meeting.
Adkham Ikramov made presentations on the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan’s sports sector and measures taken to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The heads of sports departments from the SCO Member States exchanged views on further cooperation in the sports sector and the implementation of joint projects, including on joint manufacture of sports equipment, promotion of sports tourism and popularization of national sports.
The heads of sports departments from the SCO Member States will hold the next meeting in India next year.
