Uzbekistan to modernize geological industry

On May 19, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the projects on the development of Uzbekistan’s geological industry, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reports.

The representatives of the industry departments and organisations presented 14 geology projects worth $182 million to the President.

The Uzbek leader instructed to develop a new geological exploration programme for the next 4 years aimed at increasing uranium production on 8 new deposits, purchasing modern geological equipment abroad and creating a digital geological model. The emphasis was placed on the need to modernise the Navoiuran enterprise and attract foreign investors to develop promising deposits of other minerals.

It was decided to set up the project office Under the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan that will be tasked to implement projects on the extraction of lithium, magnesium, graphite, aluminium and other rare earth elements.

More attention should be paid to training geology specialists. To this end, the technical schools in Angren, Guzar and Zeravshan will expand the training programmes on geology.

The President instructed to control strictly water consumption for household needs and increase groundwater reserves.
