WB allocates grants to restore landscapes and hydroelectric power plants in Tajikistan

On May 18, two loan agreements on the landscape restoration projects in the regions and the repair of the Nurek hydroelectric power plant were signed between the Government of Tajikistan and the International Development Association in Dushanbe, the press office of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan reported.

Minister of Finance Fayziddin Kakhhorzoda and World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan Ozan Sevimli signed the document.

One of the projects will aim to expand the area for sustainable landscape management. Measures will also be taken to restore cross-border territories. The grant amounts to $45 million. The project will be implemented in 2022-2027.

The second agreement envisages allocating $65 million to repair the Nurek HPP in the second phase. The project will be implemented within 10 years.

3 units and auxiliary machines and 6 single-phase transformers will be replaced in the first stage. The remaining 6 units will be reconstructed and the hydro turbine units will be overhauled in the second stage.
